How Animals Protect Themselves

1. Where do some animals hide to protect themselves? 

. in tree hollows

. in burrows in the ground

. under rocks and logs

2. Why does an echidna roll itself into a ball?

           Echidna rolls itself into a ball because it gets frightened when they see 

           A predator.

3. Why would the Tree Pangolin be difficult to unroll when it was in a 

tight,hard ball? 

So that the predators such as a leopard, hyena or python cannot fear

The echidna and it will be difficult for predators to unroll it. 

4. Why do flatfish lie on seabeds?

           Because they can change colour very quickly to match their

           surroundings.

5. What was the purpose of the scientists’ experiments with flatfish?

By placing a flatfish on a chessboard.

6. How does the Arctic fox change the colour of its fur in winter?

When snow falls, their fur becomes pure white.

7. What creature would prey on the Owl Butterfly?

Predators that are much bigger.

8. Why does the Tawny Frogmouth bird freeze,rather than just sit on a branch,when it is
   threatened? Because Tawny Frogmouth disguise itself to look like a tree.

9. Why does the end part of skunk’s tail continue to wriggle violently after it has broken off?
   Because animals protect themselves in many different ways. This means that their
10. predators have to be very alert,too, if they are going to find food and survive.

10. How do grazing animals protect themselves when they spot a predator? They use smells and poison to protect themselves from predators.
